Following the Rabbit: Embracing Your Weird Ideas for Real Growth

Following the Rabbit: Embracing Your Weird Ideas for Real Growth

Jan 23, 2025

I’ve been thinking about rabbits lately.

Not the fluffy, hopping kind, but the kind you follow down the hole. The ones that lead you to wild, unexpected places you couldn’t have dreamed up while standing safely on solid ground.

Because here’s my truth: I’ve been sitting on some super weird ideas.

What Weird Ideas Are You Sitting On?

You know the ones I’m talking about.

  • The ideas that make you cringe a little but also light you up.
  • The ones that keep you awake at night, whispering, “What if this actually works?”
  • The ones you shove to the back of your brain because, What if it flops? What if people side-eye me?

It’s tempting to stay quiet, to play it safe, to stick with what’s worked before.

But that’s not where the magic is.

The magic is in following the rabbit.

Why Following the Rabbit Feels Risky

When you’re standing on solid ground, following a weird idea feels risky.

It means:

  • Saying the thing you’ve been holding back.
  • Trying something so out-there, you’re not even sure it makes sense.
  • Risking failure, judgment, or the awkwardness of figuring it out as you go.

It’s messy. It’s uncomfortable. It does not feel safe.

But I've learned through hard-won experience, the magic is in the mess.

What Happens When You Follow the Rabbit

Every time I’ve leaned into a weird idea, the kind that feels a little cringy and a lot exciting, it’s paid off in ways I couldn’t have predicted.

For me, it’s looked like:

  • Launching an offer no one else was talking about.
  • Pitching podcasts with a vibe that felt completely out of left field.
  • Sharing thoughts that made me nervous but also felt deeply true.

These were the moves that brought clarity, confidence, and leadership that finally felt like me.

Because here’s the thing: following the rabbit is how you discover what you’re capable of. It’s how you shake off the fear of failure and embrace the possibility of something amazing.

What’s Your Rabbit?

So let me ask you:

  • What’s the idea that’s been tugging at you?
  • What’s the conversation you’ve been avoiding because it feels too weird, too risky, or too “out there”?

Maybe it’s pitching a bold idea at work.

Maybe it’s launching a passion project that makes your heart race.

Maybe it’s finally saying the thing you’ve been holding back in a relationship.

How to Follow the Rabbit

If you’re ready to follow your rabbit, here’s where to start:

  1.   Name Your Rabbit
  • What’s the weird idea, conversation, or project that’s been tugging at you? Write it down.
  1.   Embrace the Awkwardness
  • Following the rabbit isn’t about perfection. It’s about daring to take the first step, even if it feels messy.
  1.   Take the Leap
  • Whether it’s sending the email, starting the conversation, or sketching out your idea, take one small, bold step today.
