Holy Crap. I officially enter menopause today. 12 months, baby!

While I’m very excited to see the rollercoaster of perimenopause level out, I also felt the whisper of something else.

Oh. I’m an older woman now.

There it was. That little undercurrent of what we’ve all been taught about women and aging. That our relevance starts to fade. That we should brace ourselves for being overlooked. Because power belongs to the young.

Which is wild, because I have never been more knowledgeable, more powerful, or more in command of myself than I am right now.

Why We’ve Been Taught to Fear This Moment

One of my first mentors was a brilliant, deeply experienced older woman.

But I noticed something. She wasn’t treated the same as the men her age.

She was respected, but she wasn’t the one young associates turned to. The unspoken message? She was here to support, not lead.

Another former boss regularly mourned the long-lost days of her youth, while another embodied the “I Am Woman Hear Me Roar” vibe by berating men and women alike.

In a fight for relevance, I’ve seen women make two choices:

  • Keep your mouth shut and your head down.
  • Fight back by playing the game exactly like the men.

I reject both.

Because here’s what I know:

The women stepping into their power at this age? They are unstoppable.

Reclaiming Crone Energy (Yes, I Said Crone)

Women are taught to fear aging.

We don’t even like the word Crone, because we’ve been conditioned to believe it means “old, irrelevant, dried up.”
